Ureña drew the spot starting assignment for Tuesday afternoon’s matinee out in Oakland and wound up getting 15 runs of support from the Rangers’ offense by the time he left the contest after five frames. He struck out two and also issued a pair of walks. He’ll presumably continue to operate in a swingman-type role for Texas until further notice.

Ross Stripling was obliterated for 11 runs (five earned) over 1 2/3 innings on Tuesday in a loss to the Rangers.

Stripling was ostensibly forced to wear it for the Athletics on Tuesday afternoon as the Rangers torched him for 10 hits before he was mercifully lifted from the contest without escaping the second inning. The calamitous blow-up outing balloons his full-season ERA from 4.24 to a ghastly 5.14 in the process. The 34-year-old veteran righty will aim to turn things around on Sunday when he faces the Mariners up in Seattle.

Guardians sent RHP Tyler Beede outright to Triple-A Columbus.

Beede went unclaimed on waivers after being designated for assignment last week by the Guardians after struggling to an inflated 8.36 ERA over 14 innings (13 appearances) in his first stint back in the majors since 2022. The 30-year-old righty will most likely wind up electing free agency.

Angels released RHP Zac Kristofak.

Kristofak made one relief appearance last month for the Angels before being designated for assignment last week. The 26-year-old righty presumably went unclaimed on waivers and is now a free agent.

Phillies acquired LHP Tyler Gilbert from the Reds for cash considerations.

Gilbert heads to the Phillies as emergency organizational pitching depth at Triple-A Lehigh Valley. The 30-year-old lefty signed a minor league contract with the Reds back in mid-January. He threw a no-hitter in his first-ever start for Arizona back on August 14, 2021.
Gabriel Moreno

ARI Catcher #14

Gabriel Moreno is not in the lineup for Tuesday’s game against the Reds due to illness.

Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo told reporters that Moreno is available off the bench and the hope is that he’ll be ready to return to the lineup on Wednesday. It’ll be Tucker Barnhart handling the catching duties for the second straight game on Tuesday night.

Jasson Domínguez (elbow) will begin a minor league rehab assignment in mid-to-late May.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone told reporters Tuesday that Domínguez, who is recovering from last year’s Tommy John surgery, is less than two weeks away from getting into rehab games. He’s expected to be ready to rejoin New York’s outfield mix at some point next month. The 21-year-old top prospect impressed last year in his first taste of the majors and figures to make an impact for fantasy managers this summer.
Bowden Francis

TOR Starting Pitcher #44

Bowden Francis (forearm) is scheduled to throw a two-inning bullpen session on Tuesday.

Francis is expected to return in a multi-inning relief role later this month once he wraps up a minor league rehab assignment. The 28-year-old righty was highly effective in a relief role last year and struggled earlier this year as a traditional starter before landing on the injured list in late April with right forearm tendinitis.
Luis Garcia Jr.

WAS Second Baseman #2

Luis García Jr. (wrist) is in the lineup for Tuesday’s series opener against the Orioles.

It’s an extremely encouraging sign that García is healthy and ready to go following an early exit from Sunday’s series finale against the Blue Jays due to left wrist soreness. The 23-year-old former top prospect has gotten off to a phenomenal start this season, batting .337 (33-for-98) with three homers and six steals in 29 contests.
